Hotels · Resorts — covering the hours the desk cannot

MijA greeting a guest in a hotel lobby

A hotel lobby is never closed, but between midnight and six the desk is usually one person. That person is running the night audit, answering the phone and meeting whoever walks through the door, and only one of those three can happen at a time. MijA stands at the front of the desk and takes the walk-ups, in the language the guest actually speaks, while your night auditor finishes the work that only a human can sign off.

What goes wrong on this floor

  1. One night auditor, three jobs. The guest at the counter waits while the phone is answered, and the guest on the phone waits while the counter is served.
  2. A guest asks about the spa hours in a language nobody on the night shift reads. The answer becomes a translation app held up between two people.
  3. Guest names, passport scans and folio balances are exactly the data a hotel cannot afford to hand to an outside service, and exactly the data a cloud assistant would need to see.

How MijA actually responds

GuestHi, is there anywhere still open to eat? It is almost one in the morning.
MijAThe lounge on floor two closed at midnight, but the 24 hour cafe next to the north entrance is open. It is about a two minute walk. Would you like room service instead? I can show you tonight's menu on this screen.
GuestCan I get a late checkout tomorrow?
MijAI can put the request in for you now and the morning desk will confirm it when they open at seven. Just so you know, I am MijA, the AI at this desk, so I cannot approve it myself. May I have your room number for the request?

Why this industry needs on-premise

A hotel holds passport numbers, home addresses, arrival and departure times and card folios in one place. Under the GDPR that is a file you have to be able to point at, and Chapter V puts a hard question in front of anyone who wants to move it outside the EU. A cloud assistant that listens at the desk moves it by design. MijA does not. She runs on a machine in your server room, the audio and video are processed there and discarded there, and the only thing that reaches your PMS is the request itself.

From 2 August 2026 the EU AI Act also requires that anyone talking to an AI is told so clearly. MijA introduces herself at the start of every conversation, before the guest has said anything she would not say to a person. On-premise deployment means the interaction logs the Act expects you to keep stay on your own storage, under your own retention policy, rather than in a vendor account you do not control.

How it is deployed

A single MijA unit at the front of the reception desk, facing the lobby, connected to your PMS over the local network. Nothing is exposed to the internet unless you choose to expose it. Larger properties add a second unit at the concierge desk or the elevator lobby. Typical installation is one day, and the language set is chosen from your own arrivals data rather than a default list.
