Registration week is not hard work, it is repetitive work. When does add-drop close, where is the international office, how do I get a library card, which floor is the reserve collection on. MijA takes the repetition so the staff at the desk can spend their time on the student who actually has a problem.
What goes wrong on this floor
- Registration week turns the administrative office into a queue, and nine out of ten people in it want a date that is already published.
- An international student arrives before term with questions in a language nobody at the counter speaks that afternoon.
- The library holds the answer to almost every question asked at its own desk, and the person asking cannot navigate the catalogue to reach it.
How MijA actually responds
Why this industry needs on-premise
Two things need saying plainly. First, MijA does not grade work, does not supervise examinations, does not evaluate a student and takes no part in admissions decisions. Those are exactly the uses the EU AI Act places in the high-risk category for education from 2 August 2026, and MijA is not built for any of them. She answers questions at a counter. Second, everything she hears stays on campus. Speech and video are processed on a machine your institution owns and discarded there.
That second point is what makes American campuses comfortable. Under FERPA a student education record cannot be handed to an outside party without care, and a cloud assistant at the registrar counter hears exactly that kind of information. If it never leaves the building, the disclosure question never arises. European institutions get the same answer for the GDPR, with no cross-border transfer to justify. And under Article 50 MijA introduces herself as an AI at the start of every conversation.
How it is deployed
One MijA unit at the administrative office counter and one at the library entrance. Content is loaded from your own academic calendar, course catalogue and library holdings over the local network. No connection to a student information system is required, and none is recommended. Additional units go at the international student office during term start.
